What to do in Sayulita?
The Marietas Islands
Las Marietas are a small group of uninhabited islands a few kilometers off the coast of Nayarit, Mexico, south of Punta Mita. The islands were formed during the Cretaceous era by volcanic activity. Many people dive in and around the islands because it is a protected natural area with an abundance of marine life. We can help you schedule a half or full day boat trip to Las Marietas. There are several boat options for your trip, but excursions often include food (breakfast, lunch, and snacks for day trips), music, drinks, waterslides, snorkeling gear, and equipment for other water activities. Even if you are not feeling as active, the Marietas are still an attraction worth seeing, it is just as easy to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Marietas and sunbathe from the boat.
Sayulita is known for its excellent surf scene. Waves break in the bay all year round, the best months being December to early April, when the north swells. There are two surf spots in Sayulita; a break to the right (longboard) in front of the village and a break to the left (faster) in front of the campsite. Finding a board to rent is easy with countless surf shops around town. (100 pesos for 2 hours)
The Village Market
The Mercado del Pueblo is the city's farmers market that is only open during peak season from 10am to 2pm on Fridays. You don't want to miss this market as it has the best fresh produce, homemade sauces, bakery and ready-to-eat food. This market is also a great place to find handmade gifts such as jewelry, purses, bags, blankets, and clothing.

Tours are led by experienced guides who will provide a short lesson on how to drive four-wheelers. No previous ATV experience is necessary.

There are many places to browse and see near Sayulita. Some of our favorite places to go are the Marietas Islands, Punta los Arcos and Yelapa. There are also whale watching, snorkeling and relaxing excursions. There are several companies that offer boat trips, but we recommend Chica Loca.
Sayulita's main beach doesn't offer good snorkeling, but there are plenty of places within walking distance. We highly recommend Playa de los Muertos (to the left of the main beach) and Punta los Arcos (to the right of the main beach). The Marietas Islands also offer great snorkeling if you're willing to take a boat a few miles offshore.
You can fish on the beach or off the rocks, and there is also some great sport fishing off the Sayulita coast. Several companies in Sayulita offer panga fishing, but you can also rent a professional fishing boat from Punta Mita, Puerto Vallarta, or Nuevo Vallarta.
